Sandia Peak is the highest point of the Sandia Mountains, rising dramatically above the city of Albuquerque in central New Mexico. The name “Sandia,” Spanish for watermelon, comes from the reddish glow the granite mountains display at sunset, resembling the color of a watermelon.
